Knowledge is immortal. For everything else, there is AI.
In AI, we are past the stage of novelty.
If AI could:
Analyse your problem,
apply a body of knowledge to solve the problem, and
act on it,
why would we need knowledge workers?
Knowledge workers exist because their work is on the cutting edge.. of knowledge?
What makes knowledge work.. knowledge work?
Things like this:
Every day is a new case,
a unique transaction or arrangement of facts,
a new combination of known variations,
same old except one new confounding variation.
While there are elements of repetition, of seeing what has been encountered before, these elements may combine with some novel aspects.
That’s what makes knowledge workers special.
Teachers, lawyers, consultants, doctors, architects, coders - and others who ply intellectual trades.
For problems that just repeat in the same form, we have books, manuals, templates and processes.
We don’t need AI.
Filling-in-the-blanks work is boring and ineffective.
To be fair, a lot of writing work could have been (or has been) automated by having templates work with fill-in-the-blanks and optional yes/no flow of logic.
And hush, most cookie cutter writing work is carried on like this.

But if you were to do this with complex writing work, you would run into problems.
Of the many problems, the one we don’t talk enough about is monotony.
Nobody likes copy-paste jobs, and reading the same thing over and over.
It speaks to a lack of effort and attention to detail.
Over time, this becomes endemic when built into the processes.
Which is why young lawyers are told - treat your drafts like they are being written for the first time, afresh, by YOU.
Imagine you are writing every word, even if you have copied things, you have to own the draft.
Give the language your own touch, make you work feel original.
(Work is rarely, original, but perception matters)
AI shines in these situations by allowing the automation of this pretence that we need to carry on.
Every draft can look a little different, like written afresh.
Why? Because it has been! Yet, you have produced it.
Fascinating times.
